Oracare has the latest in dental radiology offering precision and detailed 3D X-rays of the mouth
The team at Oracare has taken traditional dental imaging to the next level by utilising the latest in dental technologies and radiology.
What is digital radiology?
Digital radiology is an advanced form of x-ray technology which instead produces digital radiographic images that are uploaded to the computer instantly.
The technique uses x-ray sensitive plates to directly capture patient data that is immediately transferred to the computer.
Further, digital x-rays require 90% less radiation than traditional film x-rays, which were already low risk to begin with. This means digital x-rays are safer and present virtually no risk at all.
What is an x-ray?
X-rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation that are invisible to the human eye. X-rays can pass through soft tissues, but are absorbed by the harder materials, such as bones and teeth. This allows for imaging which shows any issues relating to the teeth and bones.
Our dentists can use this technology to detect cavities, look at the roots of tooth, evaluate bone structure, positioning and assess gum disease.
Advantage of digital radiology
The biggest advantage of modern digital x-ray technology over the traditional film x-rays, is the time between taking the radiographs and examining them.
Since the x-rays are instantly transmitted onto the computer, the dentist can analyse the images while you’re still in the dental chair. This allows for the dentist to identify any potential problems right away. Plus, the files can be immediately shared with other dental professionals.
Our dentist will also explain the issue to you immediately so that you understand any treatments that you require.
What is 3D imaging?
3D imaging is a very valuable tool for our dentists as it allows for a 3D image, allowing the dentist to have a 3D model of your bones and teeth. The model can be examined by zooming, rotating and viewing it at any angle.
This allows for the teeth, gums, bones, nerves and airways to easily be examined in great detail and how they relate to one another.
3D x-ray imaging is commonly used for endodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, prosthodontics, sleep apnoea and TMJ treatment. The model allows for a more detailed and accurate treatment plan.
3D imaging is instantaneous and emits less radiation
The 3D imaging is both instant in transferring the images and models to the computer and emitting less radiation than traditional film x-rays.
